Tool Steel Size Tolerances

Tool Steel is stocked to tolerances per ASTM A681-08. Round bars are turned to plus tolerances to allow customers to finish to the nominal diameter. Flat bars are ground on the thickness to plus tolerances ranging from +.015 to +.090 depending on the thickness of the material.

Width tolerances on flat bars is +.125/.150 and the edge is saw cut. Length tolerance on all flats and rounds is +.125/.250. Tool Steel flats can also be saw cut on the thickness for sizes over 3", which will result in tolerances up to .250 over nominal size. Please ask your salesperson for detail regarding the tool steel flats you're interested in.

High Speed Steel Size Tolerances

High Speed Steel is produced and stocked to tolerances per ASTM A600-92A (2010). High speed steel round bar can be bought on-size (+.004,-.000) or oversize (+.015,-.000). High speed flats can be bought ground oversize, saw cut, or hot rolled. Please ask your salesperson for detail regarding the high speed steel flat you're interested in.
